 The Invitation

## Come with a question. **Leave with people to act with**

An engaging online gathering with facilitators in every breakout room. Speakers speak once, then listen. Nothing is sold. No technical background needed, and deep expertise is just as welcome: here, specialists and newcomers ask together, as peers. We will follow four steps, to spark new ideas and collaboration:

1. **Start with the question that moves you.** Questions come first, before quick answers or ready-made solutions. If no question about AI feels meaningful to you yet, join us to uncover your own by listening to the questions of others.
2. **Choose your door: Now, Soon or Later.** Three short talks open three horizons for action, from within weeks to a year or more.
3. **Leave with your question named.** Within 48 hours, everyone receives the room's questions and a list of resources people brought.
4. **Find others to act with.** On November 17, we connect the people who share similar questions.

### Why

*AI is getting more powerful. Are we becoming wiser?* This call takes that up through one question: *What is ours to hold?* Asking it admits that some things cannot be held, and opens up the ones that can: our safety, our choices, and the data AI acts on for us. **Questions do not replace responsible decisions; they help us see what deserves deciding, by whom, and with which safeguards**.

AI can extend what families, researchers and communities can discover, build and protect. Yet it meets a world already carrying inherited knowledge, habits, hopes and blind spots. **We inherit far more than money, and we hand on more than we know.**

This call grows from the rooms Intergen has convened since 2024, with families, investors and leading thinkers and doers in Austin, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, São Paulo and online. They build on Intergen's gatherings with families and family offices since 2018. **We are now sharing what we learned from those rooms and inviting next steps.**

### When

**The Calling: Wednesday, November 11, 2026**
12:00 to 1:30 pm Eastern · 9:00 am Pacific · 5:00 pm London
Online, on Zoom. Participants will be invited to share resources related to initiatives and projects relevant to the call topic. Those resources will be sent to everyone who joins, 48 hours after the call, and may be shared with the wider Intergen community afterward.

**The Connection: Tuesday, November 17, 2026**
12:00 to 1:00 pm Eastern · 9:00 am Pacific · 5:00 pm London
Online, on Zoom. No presenters on the 17th. We work from the room's questions to find the people who share yours, as one group or in smaller conversations, depending on interest.

You can register for both calls or for either one.

**From November, Intergen gathers in quarterly cycles**, hosting open events, smaller community gatherings by invitation, and reconnection group calls. This experience opens that rhythm.

## From core questions to shared action

Many of us feel uneasy about AI before we can say why. Some of us are excited about the possibilities it may bring. **What might it strengthen, magnify or make possible that is entirely new? Who answers when it acts for us?**

In November, different perspectives become guiding questions, and the questions find the people who share them. **Intergen’s practice is to preserve those questions and return to them in relationship.**

In January, learning pods turn shared questions into meaningful action, and **joining a pod unlocks a matching grant from the Survival & Flourishing Fund (SFF) for a public lecture series**. Each step opens only when people want to go further.

##### [November 11 · The Calling](https://intergen.family/what-is-ours-to-hold#collapse1-widget_1724187451053)

Three short talks, each ending on a question:

**Now** · Zach Schlosser: *How do we determine safe-enough AI?*
**Soon** · Tom Kehler: *How do we know AI carries our values?*
**Later** · Indy Johar: *When AI can do our work, what is ours to hold?*

Followed by a **Research Landscape** scoop · Jonah Lynch: *What does research already know, and what’s missing?*

Then breakout rooms where each person finds and names their own question.

##### [Within 48 hours · The share-back](https://intergen.family/what-is-ours-to-hold#collapse2-widget_1724187451053)

Participants and contributors receive the room's questions, without names, and a map of the resources people brought. The resources may also be shared with the wider Intergen community afterward.

##### [November 17 · The Connection](https://intergen.family/what-is-ours-to-hold#collapse3-widget_1724187451053)

No presenters. We connect the people who share similar questions, and ask what each of us would like to learn or do next.

##### [January · Learning pods](https://intergen.family/what-is-ours-to-hold#collapse4-widget_1724187451053)

Small groups form around the questions with the most energy for a learning pod series informed by the previous sessions. The pod will include invited researchers for a deeper dive in action and learning.

As a result of this experience, participants develop a collaborative written piece and authorship is credited to those who choose to be named.

##### [Beyond the pods · A lecture series](https://intergen.family/what-is-ours-to-hold#collapse5-widget_1724187451053)

Joining a pod unlocks a matching grant for a public lecture series to be produced by The Uncontainability Project. What the pods learn informs the series, and participants are invited as guests.

##### [Recording and privacy](https://intergen.family/what-is-ours-to-hold#collapse6-widget_1724187451053)

Portions of the call are recorded on Zoom; the breakout rooms are not. In each breakout room a person types up the questions raised, never who asked. We keep the questions, never who asked, and you can ask never to be quoted. Recordings are deleted 30 days after the event, except a speaker's talk kept with their agreement.
